Which Players Score The Most From Outside The Box? | Last 5 Seasons


This article looks at which players have scored the highest percentage of their goals from outside of the area in the last 5 seasons. To be included in the comparison each player had to have scored a minimum of 5 goals during that season, apart from this season when they had to have scored a minimum of 2 goals.Key Which Players Score The Most From Outside The Box? | Last 5 Seasons

2008/2009 Stats

08 Which Players Score The Most From Outside The Box? | Last 5 Seasons

Mikel Arteta scored 60% of his goals during the 2008/2009 season from outside the box, which was the most out of all the players that scored 5 goals or more. Ashley Young scored 57% of his goals from outside the area, Geovanni scored 50% of his goals for Manchester City outside the area and Matt Taylor scored 40% of his 10 goals from outside the box.

Chris Brunt scored 38% of his goals from outside the box, while Mido, Andrey Arshavin, Cristiano Ronaldo, Louis Saha and Samir Nasri all scored 33% of their goals from outside of the area.

2009/2010 Stats

09 Which Players Score The Most From Outside The Box? | Last 5 SeasonsDamien Duff scored 50% of his goals from outside the box during the 2009/2010 season, which was 7% more than James Milner and Thomas Vermaelen and 10% more than Ashley Young and Ryan Giggs.  Duff also scored 12% more of his goals from outside the box than Bobby Zamora, 17% more than Bilyaletdinov and Steven Gerrard, 23% more than Cesc Fabregas and 25% more than Matt Taylor.

2010/2011 Stats

Nikola Kalinic scored 40% of his goals from outside the box, while Craig Gardener and Daniel Sturridge both scored 38% of their goals from outside the box.

Charles N’Zogbia, Nani and Roman Pavlyuchenko all scored 33% of their goals from outside of the box, while Ashley Young and Louis Saha scored 29% of their goals from outside the box while Didier Drogba scored 27% of his goals from outside the box.

2011/2012 Stats

During the 2011/2012 season Franco Di Santo, Mikel Arteta and Seb Larsson all scored 57% of their goals from outside the box, while Adam Johnson and Ashley Young scored 50% of their goals from outside of the box.

Junior Hoilett and Gylfi Sigurdsson both scored 42% of their goals outside the box, while James Morrison scored 40% of his goals outside the box and Craig Bellamy and Yaya Toure both scored 33% of their goals from outside the box.

2012/2013 Stats

So far this season Luis Suarez has scored 80% of his goals from outside the box, while Hatem Ben Arfa, Lukas Podolski and Steven Gerrard have all scored 50% of their goals from outside the box.

Mladen Petric has scored 33% of his goals from outside the box, Michu has scored 25% of his goals from outside the box and Demba Ba has scored 17% of his goals from outside of the box.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored the most goals in one season since the 2008/2009 season, scoring 6 times, while Luis Suarez, Franco Di Santo, Mikel Arteta, Seb Larsson, Ashley Young, Giovanni, Matt Taylor and Cesc Fabregas have all scored 4 goals from outside the area in one season.

However Luis Suarez’s 4 goals from outside the area have come in the 6 matches he has played so far this season and he has a great chance of beating Cristiano Ronaldo’s record this season.
