Arsenal ended a terrible week on the high after Santi Cazorla spared their blushes. After crashing out of the FA Cup at the hands of Blackburn and well beaten at Home to Bayern Munich, Arsenal would have been sceptical of the reception they’d receive for their third game at The Emirates in a row.
The stats below show total domination but Aston Villa’s break away goal looked to cap off a week that Arsenal would want to forget however the petite Spaniard scored his 11th goal of the season to help Arsenal take three points and close the gap at the top of the table. Santi not only scored but created four chances and completed 90% of his passes for Arsenal so his influence was undeniable.
Jack Wilshere was the top passer with 92 passes and an accuracy of 85%. Abou Diaby was most accurate with 95% and he also, out of the midfielders and attackers, passed the ball forward the most – 33%.There were a crazy amount of crosses from Arsenal today – they hit the half century and were accurate with 18% of them whilst 5% of Arsenal’s passes were into Aston Villa’s penalty area.
Aston Villa were close to snatching a point here and will be disappointed to lose a late goal but the Gunners were dominant enough to deserve all three points.
Arsenal win after a turbulent week but their main target should be to try to overhaul their London rivals Spurs and Chelsea. At this stage any win is important and Santi Cazorla’s excellent début season continues with a brace helping the Gunners further up the table.
