Most Creative Players
There’s some changes in the Top 5 Creators table since our last article on this. Although Leighton Baines remains at the top his gap has been significantly reduced. On February 13th (the day the previous article was written) he was twenty-three clear of David Silva. David Silva is now only seven behind him which is astonishing. Since the February 13th David Silva has created 21 chances for Manchester City. Compared to the other players – Baines has created just 5, Suarez 9, Gerrard 6 and Cazorla has over taken Taarabt who was on 63 so Santi has created 11 chances in that time.
David Silva’s recent run of creative form has been impressive and if he continues to do this he will surpass Leighton Baines as the most creative player in the League – a position which Baines has occupied for the majority of the season.
Most Assists
Juan Mata now has the most goal assists in the Premier League. He also sits in sixth place just behind Cazorla as the most creative player in the League. Chelsea have a game in hand so you’d expect Mata to break into the Top 5. To become the most creative player he’d have to imitate the form of his compatriot David Silva in the last quarter of the season. Even though Juan Mata doesn’t come in the Top 5 creators he’s been consistent for Chelsea. He’s always creating and constantly scoring goals for them too. He’s Chelsea’s 2nd highest scorer this season after Lampard and has chipped in all season.
This is one of the reasons why we’d place Juan Mata as one of the contenders for Player of the Season – we feel players that play well consistently over the season should be in contention and not players that have dips in form or come good at the start or towards the end of the season.
