Swansea 1 -1 Chelsea
The Liberty Stadium lived up to its reputation as a tricky away trip in an open game which ended with a late equaliser from Swansea’s Pablo Hernandez.
It was a game of short intricate passing, as both sides looked to carve out opportunities meticulously, each clocking up a lowly figure of around one long pass in every ten throughout the game.
Swansea lost a vital cog in Joe Allen over the summer but have managed to maintain their possession football under Laudrup, who bought in a direct replacement in the form of Korean midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung.
Only John Obi Mikel attempted more passes than Ki, who racked up an impressive 98% passing accuracy as only 1 of his 63 passes went astray. It was not due to a conservative passing choice either, as 46% of his passes came in the attacking half, and he achieved a 93% accuracy in the final third, with only 1 of his 14 passes proving inaccurate.
Another impressive stat comes in the form of Ki’s 100% long pass completion, where each of his 10 long balls reached their destination, proving that The Swans have acquired much more than a cautious defensive midfielder.
