Tottenham 0 -1 Wigan
Spurs were below par at White Hart Lane and played victim to a hit-and-run from an enthused Wigan side who played to their strengths on the break, taking their chance through Ben Watson on 56 minutes.
Wigan soaked up Spurs’ superior possession early on but were relieved every time the ball got forward to Arouna Kone, who was a constant danger to the home side, and was involved in everything dangerous about the visitors.
The Ivorian attempted five dribbles and laid on three chances and one clear-cut chance for his teammates over 90 minutes. His one shot on target forced Brad Friedel into a brilliant reaction save on the half hour mark, and it was his work ethic, forcing Friedel into making a mistake, which led to the decisive goal.
